The more often you practice feeling an emotion, the easier it gets and the less you feel fearful to have that emotion.

Allowing Negative Emotions When TTC


Hey there, inspired mama! On today’s episode, we are going to be talking more about navigating negative emotions. I strongly believe becoming emotionally resilient can help so much on your path to motherhood. 


My most common emotion during my journey for a long time was anxiety. I wanted to control the uncontrollable. Our first thought when negative emotions arise is to say “I shouldn’t feel this way. Why am I anxious? Stop feeling anxious. Go be positive. Let me distract myself to avoid this.” When we do this and ignore the emotion, it prevents us from processing the emotion right now. We bury it down and then it gets layered with doubt and guilt. It becomes a cycle. 


Instead of burying it down or telling yourself you shouldn’t feel that way, I want you to try to process that emotion (whatever that emotion may be for you - anxiety, guilt, sadness) with these 4 steps.


1. Identify the emotion. Name it.


I want you to really think about this and analyze which feeling is coming up the most for you on your journey.


2. Where do you feel this emotion?


When you think of this emotion, where do you feel it? Our body creates sensations. Which ones are you feeling when this emotion comes up? 


3. Describe it. 


Write it down. Meditate on it. Say it out loud. However you prefer but be sure that you are describing this emotion and how it feels to you.


4. Allow yourself to feel the emotion.


Set a timer for 60 seconds and allow yourself to feel that negative emotion throughout that whole time. Close your eyes and feel the feeling.


We don’t have to fear negative emotions. We don’t have to strive to have a journey that has no negative emotion. You are going to have these emotions come up during our path to motherhood. The key is what you do with them.
