"Fix Your Fertility" Topic


SHOW NOTES: Episode 39

Somewhere along your infertility journey there is a part of you that feels so desperate to find a solution that you would do anything just to fix your fertility. Today, I am talking about the idea of wanting to fix your fertility and why it may not be 100% beneficial to your journey.

     

On today’s episode, I talk about why I bring guests on the podcast that will help support you emotionally where you are and why I typically don't have a bunch of guest sharing the next great protocol to "fix" your fertility. We can feel so frustrated by the fact that we have an unexplained infertility diagnosis and we just want answers and a solution to the problem. You start to believe that you are truly broken and that something is wrong with you. I started to realize this way of thinking felt really awful and I did not want to be in that place anymore. I did not want to be someone who felt like I had to take the perfect supplements, do the acupuncture or do the exercise to be good enough to be able to have a baby. We are authentically human and to be expecting anything but perfection is just unreasonable and setting yourself up for a lot of pain, disappointment, and failure. What I've realized is most of the time, healing and supporting yourself on your journey is more about coming back home and doing simple things like being more present with your body, finding love for your body, or finding ways to enjoy activities within your body. When you come from a place of acceptance and kindness for your body, you’ll make decisions for the future that will feel validating and full of relief instead of from shame, guilt, or disappointment. You will be able to accept yourself where you are in the process because it feels best for you and not because so and so told you to do it.  


This episode is not to say those protocols and specialists don't work. What I want offer is that while they may be helpful if their 34 page elimination diet, or 1000 dollar supplement protocol, or next huge lab workup is causing you a bunch of stress and making you think more poorly of yourself, I am not sure how much benefit it will actually bring.

         

Most of the time, we know innately what is best for us and you're the one that is best suited to make that decision. If your reason for trying something like acupuncture, therapy, massages, or physical therapy is that it feels right for you, go for it. If your reasons are that you have to do it because you feel broken, I would really question if wanting to fix your fertility is going to be beneficial to your journey. 


Your body is smarter than you think and a lot of us are innately wired and made to be able to do this journey. We are all unique, imperfect humans, and we all have our own journey to get to where we want to go. I hope my perspective on this is helpful. I would love to hear how this episode helped you!
