The Path To Motherhood Podcast

I find that just reconnecting with your senses in any way can be a good way to get back into your body to feel safe in your body and to also look for pleasant experiences within your body because infertility is unpleasant.

Yoga, Mindset, and Working Through Emotions with Kendra Tolbert, MS, RDN, RYT

SHOW NOTES: Episode 40

Today, I am joined by Kendra Tolbert, a registered dietitian nutritionist, registered yoga teacher, and certified aromatherapist, to chat about living fertile. Kendra has experience helping individuals, families, and communities make improvements to their well-being and quality of life by adopting healthier habits. Her areas of expertise include women's health, PCOS, fertility, mind-body practices, and community nutrition.

On today’s episode, Kendra talks about how she became involved in women’s health and yoga, how she takes the approach of supporting and influencing her patients with PCOS rather than trying to control or fix their fertility, and about how it is very common for brokenness and feeling lost and disconnected to be part of someone’s infertility journey. We chat about some things you can do to reconnect with your body, which include practicing yoga, walking, being outside and reconnecting to your senses. We talk about how each woman is different when infertility, and how Kendra uses the seven pillars of living fertile to support these women.

The seven pillars of living fertile are an acronym of the word “fertile” and each letter represents the following:

F is for fertility supporting foods

E is for embodiment

R is for rejuvenation

T is for transcendence

I is for integrative practices

L is for self-love

E is for emotional well being

We talk about how our bodies are much more complex than we give them credit for, how being obsessed with doing everything right and eating all the right things is actually detrimental and not sustainable, and how it is okay to pause and question whether the things we are told not to eat when trying to conceive are actually true. We also chat about shifting your focus on the positive rather than the negative, believing that the impossible can be possible because often things aren’t quite as bad as they seem, and how what you’ve been told about life isn’t necessarily how your life is going to play out. We also talk about how to deal with your emotions when you are going through the two week wait by creating a sense of safety for yourself so that overwhelming feelings don’t overtake you.

Kendra reminds us to find ways to connect with your body in joyful ways and in ways that feel good and safe. Remind yourself that your body shows up for you in so many ways and that it is a source of delight and pleasure and safety.

This is such a great conversation with Kendra. I would love to hear how this episode helped you! Share this podcast with a friend, leave a review, or share on your social media and tag me @SarahBrandell.
