Background Noise

Background Noise

SHOW NOTES: Episode 7

Thank you for joining me for another episode of the Path to Motherhood podcast. Today I want to talk to you about this idea of “background noise.” This may be a new concept or idea to you but I really want to dive deeper into this. You may say “I feel anxious” but don’t really know why or feel like there is no one reason why you feel that anxiety. These fears, worries, unmade decisions are often subconscious but they feel heavy. We often avoid these or ignore them and they create so much wasted energy. We don’t even realize it often times but it can be so exhausting.

A lot of times we will have these “what if’s” going on and our brain immediately wants to avoid it. Our brain wants us to avoid pain. It doesn’t want us to think about these thoughts but instead ignore them. Instead of processing those emotions, we will hold on to them and they will literally become background noise.

I often reacted this to having a suitcase. Maybe your thoughts are centered around anxiousness so you have an “anxiety suitcase”. You carry this suitcase with you throughout the day and sometimes it is light and sometimes it’s very heavy but all in all it’s an emotional load that is quite literally exhausting you.

Today I dive in to opening that suitcase up, identifying where this is coming from and what is creating all of this emotional background noise for you. Sometimes we have to dig in and see if we can release some of this emotional overload.

What I suggest:

Show your brain proof that it will be ok. So even if this scenario were to happen, I would have my own back. It allows you to relax a little and be less afraid of the what if because you know even if it were to happen, you would be ok. For some of you it may be an unmade decision - would this help, etc. So instead of allowing yourself to have an unmade lingering decision that is causing so much stress, make a decision and move on and know that whatever decision that you make does not have to be permanent.

When we have these unmade decisions, these worries, secret fears, this is affecting how you show up. It is literally deciding how you take your next step. It is deciding how you make your decisions. This is why addressing them is so important.

Allowing that fear to be there, playing out that fear, getting honest with ourselves is what is so helpful. Maybe you can sit down and journal about it. Once you really understand where you’re coming from, this is going to allow you to drop so many of those background secret fears. From this space, you have more space to hold on to the possibilities. What if this does work? What if this is the cycle? Being able to believe it is possible for you to have this dream and not being completely consumed by fear. Allowing room in your day to day for the joy of possibility.

I would encourage you to take some time. Sit down and identify that background emotion for you. Get really clear on why, what thoughts, what unmade decisions are causing you to carry that emotion around. I’d love to hear what your background noise or fears are.
